Disney Yacht Club Villas

Collier County has some 700 miles of shoreline, and around 120 marinas, many offering boat and water sports equipment rentals. Scuba diving is another popular pastime.

There are also plenty of cruising and sailing clubs, including the Naples Sailing & Yacht Club, the Naples Cruise Club, Gulf Coast Sailing Club and the Naples Yacht Club. Regattas are held year-round.

Canoeing is also a favorite sport, culminating in one of the most popular local activities, the Great Dock Canoe Race held each spring at Crayton Cove.

The Collier County Tax Collector collects registration fees for all boats which are domiciled in Florida. For original registration a title is required. The registration cost is based on the length of the boat. Annual registration is during June and is good until the end of the following June.

One of Florida's most popular activities. Choose from salt- or fresh-water angling in places from the Gulf to rivers, bays, canals or lakes. Charter a boat, fish from shore or the Naples Fishing Pier on 12th Avenue S., or even from the Marco and Goodland bridges.

The catch is very diverse: Amberjack, bass, blue fish, bonita, black or red grouper, redfish, snook, snapper, tarpon, and even the fearsome shark.

Seasons for catching some fish are restricted. Redfish season is June through February, and they must be between 18 and 27 inches. Snook season is March through May, and September through December, and they must be at least 24 inches and no more than 34 inches.

Saltwater fishing licenses are also required when fishing from a boat. Exceptions are Florida residents under age 16 or over age 65. The latter are required to obtain a resident senior citizen hunting/fishing certificate at no charge. Resident fishing licenses are valid for 12 months from date of purchase, and there are also three-day saltwater licenses and seven-day licenses.

Proof of residency is a Florida drivers license, a voter registration card or a certificate of domicile. There are a few other exceptions. Residents can saltwater fish from a pier or land without a license, but must carry proof of residency. Licenses are required for non-Florida residents when freshwater fishing. They are good for a year.
